What to feed a dog with colitis?

What do you feed your pet dog with? I'm talking abt staple food, not snacks?

  • Pls tell me what staple food you feed your dog with. My dog doesn't like dog food much, she won't eat her dinner if it's a whole bowl of dry dog food, but she will eat it when i mix the dog food with white rice and boiled chicken. I'm living in Singapore, thus rice is easily available, so I'm thinking what do you people feed your dog with, especially if your dog doesn't like her dog food.

    Rice is very good for your dog. My husband is a police officer and most of the police dogs are fed a diet of rice mixed with ground meat and/or high protein greens, along with a dog vitamin. I breed cattle dogs and feed mostly dogfood, but when i have a dog that will not keep weight i add rice to the diet. I had a female who went off of her feed while in heat and she was fed 1 cup of rice per 10 lbs of body weight with deer meat (we have an an overpopulation and live in a very small town, as a cop when one gets hit by a car, my husband has to clean it off the road, so we buter them for the dogs); she did great on this. So long as you add something containing protein, rice would be great

My dogs get Pedigree, either the adult formula or Gravy Train. They LOVE the Gravy Train. It already tastes good to them, but if you pour some warm water over it the food makes a gravy and my dogs almost inhale the food! What is also good, is Iams make Savory Sauce that both of my dogs love. Raw eggs are also good for dogs, and most will eat them just fine.

I feed a raw, sometimes called a barf, diet. They eat chicken, pork, beef, rabbit and a variety of veggies, including oatmeal, rice, potato, carrot, tomato, apple, etc. Really as much variety as I can give them. I do not believe in feeding a processed dog food as overall, in the long run, it does not provide all of their nutritional needs.

Feeding your dog rice is good. To get my dogs to eat dry dog food plain, I would put some warm water in it a few minutes before I gave it to them. The water makes gravy and my dogs loved it. Now the eat the food straight from the bag. Once a week, I feel them as a special treat rice and boiled chicken mixed with the dry.

Your dog probably doesn't like her food because it has lots of fillers like wheat, soy and corn. Find a food that had a protein like chicken, beef, fish, or lamb as the very first ingredient. Better nutrition for the dog and they usually like it much more than most foods. Rice is OK, but not too much, her diet should be balanced. Some meat, some veggies, some starch, etc. If she seems to be doing OK with the dog food/rice/chicken mix, go ahead and let her eat it, but do look into what is in the kibble you are giving her now... My dogs eat Walthams dog food. And I believe that a dog will eat the dog food given to them. They act on instinct, and they are not about to starve themselves. Although rice is good for them. I give it my pets, with a little hamburger if they are not feeling well.

I prefer Science Diet. Almost every vet I have ever been to recommends it.
