Has anyone ever had this problem?

This is a little long, but if you have the time and you can help me, please read and answer! I have a Chihuahua named Lucy! This is Lucy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/11921192@N02/4272598507/ 4 or 5 months ago, I took Lucy to the vet for what looked like a Cyst next to her Anus. The vet diagnosed it as a Sebaceous Cyst. OUCH!!! The vet lanced the cyst, (I'll never forget the scream that Lucy let out the first time), when the vet took her back and lanced the Cyst. What a heartbreaking sound! I felt so sorry for her! The vet cleaned it out and put Lucy on Amoxi Drops twice a day for 2 weeks and Pain medication if she needed it! Can't remember what the name of the pain medicine was. After 2 weeks as soon as Lucy finished all of her Antibiotics, I took her back to the vet for a re-check. The vet cleared Lucy and said the Cyst was gone! I know how painful Cysts are, because I get them myself sometimes and I know how they feel! Late this afternoon, I noticed that what looks like a Cyst came back again and in the same spot as the first time. As of now, Lucy cannot get comfortable, the area is very red, very inflamed , very swollen and I'm sure she's in pain. She was fine this morning! I called my vet as soon as I noticed it, to see if I could bring Lucy in right away to have her taken care of and the vet is not in the office on Wednesdays, just the receptionist. I asked the receptionist what I can do for Lucy to give her some kind of relief or ease the pain a little and get her through tonight, until we go to the vet in the morning and the receptionist said the only thing that I can do for Lucy at home, is to put Hot Compresses on the area, since we don't know yet if it's a Cyst or an Anal Gland that has Ruptured. I'm just afraid that since it was the receptionist that told me about the Hot Compresses and not the Vet, that Hot Compresses may make Lucy's situation worse! I know you can't believe everything you read online, but I did read on a Veterinary site that Hot Compresses can cause an Anal Gland to Rupture. I don't know if that's true or not and if Lucy does end up having a Anal Gland Rupture, I don't want to chance making her worse than she already is! I'm keeping an eye on Lucy through the night, and if she gets really uncomfortable, I have No Problem taking her to an Emergency Vet to have her cyst taken care of Tonight. I also called the Emergency Vet to see if they could tell me what I can do to help Lucy get through the night and some relief and they need to see her, which I understand, before they offer me any advice. Has anyone here, ever had a dog that has had a Cyst next to the Anus? Do you know if Hot Compresses will help or make the situation worse? If you have ever had a dog with this problem, being in this situation, what would you do? Anyone with any knowledge or experience that can offer me any tips on what I should do to help Lucy get through tonight, would be greatly appreciated. Please STAR this question, so my contacts can see and answer this question! Thanks!

Answer:
Yes had a male Schnauzer in 2003 that had this problem, they first lanced it, it came back in a couple of months, they then went in did surgery, took it out and cleaned the skin and tissue all around the area, he was fine after that, and it never came back. She will be fine till am, take her back to the vet...and if you have some Neosoprin Plus, put a thin layer on it, this will deaden and help stop the pain...I use it on small scraps and cuts on my dogs, my vet tells me to use it, and if in an area where she can lick it, cover the spot....and then get her to the vet as sonn as you can... Heat packs and ice packs will help if is swollen but will not stop the pain, but will ease it.. Okay, first of all, the vet should have numbed the cyst and area around it so she would not be in pain, that is so wrong, and I am so sorry your baby had to have that done without it being done properly....cyst are so painful and to lance and not deaden it, sorry, this upsets me, the vet was wrong. Now, most cyst like this need surgery to get it all out, so it will not keep reoccuring and just keeps coming back and back again, to have it do so, can cause a cancer, yes they can...it infects the tisusses around it and the tissue and skin is not healing, or it would not keep coming back. She needs to have surgery and have the area removed and cleaned out properly and under anesthesia, not just lance and cut and go and let her suffer while doing it. Sorry, right now I am crying for your little dog to have to have gone through that, and now it is back again, please take her to a different vet and get a good opinion and get it taken care of properly. Maybe your vet just thought the lancing would take care of it, but most of these type of cyst have to be removed, the area cleaned out really well to prevent it coming back. I know how you are about your dogs, and I know you take really good care of them, so please don't let the baby ever have that done again, and not be given something to deaden the area first...that is why she screamed so bad. Our vets at our shelter, deadens it if it a very small one, most of the times, they put the dog under and do it right..and then the dog has no more problems with it reoccurring.. Good luck, and please let me know how she gets along, she is in my prayers.

Not a dog, but a rabbit, years ago. Had the tumor removed twice. We didn't use heat. I think I would just call every vet in your phone book, they can't all be off. I would think with all the drama your pets go through, you might have something for pain already in your house that you could give her. Walmart sells a dog aspirin in the pet section, you might look into that. I would call around your area and just ask other vets/vet techs. I think you missed your calling, you might be qualified to be a vet when your dogs get through with you. Still praying for you all and Zoe and Gizmo, and Daisy, and Bandit, And Romeo, and Lucy and your other chi's just to be safe. Peace be with you.

if you're worried about the hot compress try a cold compress it will at least numb the area for a bit...

Not necessary to do anything. You are over-reacting. See the vet in the morning. It's a simple problem to solve.
