Dog lovers why do dogs eat poop?

  • My neighbors dogs (sweet animal shelter mutts) eat quite a bit of dog poop and I'm thinking they may be retarded. How can I know for sure? I'm worried that their behavior will rub off on my sophisticated King Charles Cavilers.

    They eat their own poop because they lack protein.Usually this is the result of being fed poor quality commercial dog food (which may still be expensive food....but lacking in proper nutrients)....and not being given bones. Cook for your dog....and give them a bone a day. They will no longer crave protein and will stop eating poo. It's bad for them to do it....they can end up with ugly bacterial infections in their stomach from doing so.

No, they are malnourished. It becomes a habit to hungry dogs when they don't get enough to consume stool and absorb whatever nutrients are inside. Just feed your own Cavaliers and it won't do anything.
