What's your breed?
-
Hey everybody- Just wondering what made you choose your breed of dog (if you have a breed). Maybe it's their looks. Maybe it's their temperment. Maybe both. From Chihuahuas to Great Danes I think everybody has a certain breed that touches their heart or that shares their home. Maybe you've never even had a chance to own your favorite breed, but what makes a certain breed appealing to you? I know I've never owned a Great Pyrenese, but I've met a few at the shelter with exceptional personalities and I love them. For responsible breeders out there and everyday dog owners....what made you choose your breed? Did you grow up with them? Do you work with them? Do you find that once you've owned a certain breed you find that you're always going back to that breed? Why is that? Or maybe you have a breed that you hate (even if you've never met that breed of dog)....why do you think that is? I've grown up with GSDs and I know that I'll always have one. Once a GSD lover always a GSD lover :)

Answer:
Samoyed: I grew up with Samoyeds. My grandparents bred them. I love their beauty and brains, the fact that they are wily, conniving, pain in the a** dogs with a big smile and a happy spirit. I love the "negotiation" process of training them and the challenge of getting inside their wee little heads to figure out how best to convince them they really DO want to do what I'm telling them to do. I love their primative outlook on life. I love the fact that they love me despite the fact I am not their god. Bernese: I love their brawn and working dog ethic. I love their need to attempt to do everything in their power to make me happy. I love the fact that they have no concept of their size and believe throughout life that they are lapdogs. I love their deep souls. I love the fact that they believe I am their god.

I grew up with brittany spaniels , spaniel mixes and lab mixes. I like these dogs due to their high energy drive, their personality and pretty much everything about the breed. My dad always had a couple brittany spaniels , for hunting, but these dogs were always great family pets too. I have now owned a cocker spaniel, a cocker spaniel/lab mix , a rottie and a brittany spaniel. Im positive Ill always have a spaniel because these are truly my favorite breed. Although my dogs dont hunt, or compete in agility I stll love to see a dog do what it was bred for. The next dog I own will probably be a king charles spaniel, this breed has recently captured my heart and i would love to own one within the next couple years. Im just worried because this breed is prone to a lot of health problems, and will be the smallest dog ive ever owned. I cant live without my spaniels.

I grew up with beagles. I like beagles, and I think they are the cutest dog. However, I have always wanted a Yellow Lab. I can't have one now because I live in a small apartment, so I have a cat. I love my cat, but I still miss having a dog around.

Well, our current dogs are mutts, but I grew up with Great Dane/Lab mixes from the day I was born. Great Danes are my personal favorites, but I like all dogs.

I've grew up with Australian Cattle Dog crosses, and their ability to learn, and be very loyal attracted me to that breed. Then I met my husband who is from the Central West of NSW, and he had Australian Cattle Dogs too - working the land, sheep and cattle. At present -we have a purebred Blue Australian Cattle Dog - Bundy. He is so smart and eager to please, he loves big walks (which keeps me fit and stops him digging the lawn up) and we have hours of fun chasing balls and other toys. I think dogs are great for your health, no matter what breed they are, and the fact that they love you uncoditionally is what appeals to me. My husband and I are also attracted to Kelpies, for the same reason as the ACD - he has them on the farm too - maybe one day, we can get one as an addition to our family.
