Dog superstitions..(not to be confused with Myths!).........?

I live near to where the Hound of the Baskervilles myth is situated in the Sherlock Holmes mystery, by Arthur Conan Doyle on Dartmoor in England, suffice to say I have never seen or been pursued by a large luminescent hound, on a dark foggy night. But there are many dog kennels in that area (it is very rural) and when I walk out on the moor with my dog in winter and you can hear the dogs howling, it is quite un-nerving

Hmmm... that black dogs are evil....also I have heard the one where if a strange dog shows up at your house it means a new friendship is in your near future...LOL... ETA- Reality Check/Troll- although not dog related...that's not a superstition....maybe "myths" opposite.... @Kaper...It is not likely I'm getting TD for my answer...I have a few trolls that love to hate on me or maybe it is one troll with a few accounts...LOL...nothing new. Surely 9 different people did not misunderstand the question as well as my answer.....if so that is sad. It's not my problem if someone dislikes me & I couldn't care less. ;)

Dogs with seven toes can see ghosts. If a dog is just staring off into space if you look between its ears you will see a ghost let your dog lick your newborn and the child will be a quick healer

The only one I have heard is if a dog eats grass, it will rain within an hour or two. and my mom just said that way back when, it was believed that if you allowed a dog to lick your baby's head, their hair would come in thicker.

I have never heard any of these except the howling dog means death. These are great. I just had to point out Chigirls 7 TDs. LMAO. Apparently some people missed the point of the question. Going along with what you said about biting an idiot. I've always heard that dogs wont bite drunk people. (I guess me sitting on my butt at a friends house, after 4-5 glasses of wine...and having her senile and extremely NOT friendly Dobe sitting on my lap and slobbering on my face proves that theory...lol)

I remember back when I was little, we used to live in the country not far from an old cemetery. Before the hearse would come down the road, several men would walk the ditches with sticks making sure there were no dogs hanging round. It was believed that a dog(I think it was a black dog) would lead the soul away from it final resting place.

My Dad being Greek always told me this one.. In Greece , dogs were believed to foresee evil.
