Help with transport, please?

Please, please star this for me...I am trying to get a transport for a rescue dog, from Detroit to Denver.Help?

  • Any animal lovers even remotely close to Detroit, MI heading West and willing to transport a Aus. Cattle Dog? I really need to get something arranged so this rescue dog can be relocated to Colorado, in a home which is basically going to give her the best chance of a normal life. To my contacts: She's the dog which bit and was being considered that she may be euthanized, or turned over to a behaviorist or someone with lots of experience with troubled dogs. I have found someone who is a willing (and experienced) dog owner and wants to give her a good home, in Colorado. Even if someone were to be going on vacation even halfway to Colorado (like Michigan to wherever) that would even help. I should mention that she is a fear biter, and she has snapped, so this is the reason shes being relocated. She is not viscious, she just gets nervous. She will be coming on board wearing a soft muzzle, and if necessary she will be in a crate. If you can help, please email me. The sooner the better, this really is going to save this dogs life. Please can you help? 25 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details Even if you are in a surrounding state, a couple hours away or something, I could make a couple hour drive to get her to you.

Hi Might be worth a trip to a local truck stop. There's a lot of "Good Ole Boys & Gals" driving semi's that just love dogs, and might be willing to lend a hand. Nice that you are helping this dog. Best of luck, Rebel

I starred, but can't help transport....just had a whole ridiculous fiasco trying to arrange transport for a Cattledog/Basenji mix from foster in CT to my home in SD. We finally gave up & put her on a commercial flight, she'll be here late tomorrow night. Maybe this is an option, if you or the adopter can afford it, or split the cost? Unless I'm mistaken it's in the range of $300. (Foster paid the bill in this case, I haven't yet asked what the price was). Also, try posting your needs with this rescue group, Pilots N Paws: http://pilotsnpaws.org/ At one point we had transport all lined up for my dog, but one pilot cancelled at the last minute due to personal reasons. Overwhelmingly, however, this is not typical of how things happen with this group & they carry off many MANY successful transports. Good luck! Edit: Also try these organizations- Animal Rescue Flights: http://www.animalrescueflights.org/ and Truck-N-Paws: http://www.trucknpaws.com/ I have found Truck N Paws to be most helpful if you have complete transport *almost* planned out but are missing a couple of "legs". Still a good group of folks & worth seeing if they can help.

Go to www.pilotsnpaws.org This is a group of private pilots who volunteer to fly dogs in your case from you to Colorado. You need to register and then the intro. page will come up and you can go from there. You can be in touch w/pilots directly and also post a flight request from where you are to Colorado. There's also a group of long-distance truckers who do the same thing: [email protected]

you have already asked this question. There should be some kind of protocol for transporting dogs.

Transporting a bite case is absolutely irresponsible. Not only are you passing on a dangerous dog to someone else, but in the process, you are exposing every other transport volunteer to the same possibility. A fearful dog is one of themost dangerous dogs, and a biter is a biter, no matter what their motivation. They are also not happy dogs, ever. There are hundreds of dogs euthanized every day, somewhere, and most of those would get through life without biting anyone. By taking up an adoptive home and other resources to save a dog that has not earned it's place, you are wasting all of those resources, including a good home for a good dog. You are also participating in the endangerment of anyone who will ever be near that dog, including children. A child who is attacked by a dog not only goes on to never have pets, but they do not typically allow their children to have them either. That constitutes a period of over twenty years in a home for potentially four or five dogs that could have had a home with that person. Thta's four or five dogs at minimum, plus the space this one takes up, for nice non biting dogs that will go unfilled, and five or six other dogs that will be euthanized unnecessarily. Any good responsible rescuer will not participate nor condone this - including me.
