i have 2 dogs already an irish setter and a spaniel im thinking about adopting a cat or maybe 2 im 18 still living with my parents and going to school ( although its a night school so im out from house from 4 pm to 12am ) so are cats an easy animal to look after??? like what is needed to make a cat happy ??? does is depend on the breed of cats ? like what its personality is, energy level etc.. im tihnking that maybe an older like 3 year old cat is a better choice cause they are less hyper and active and wont get in every whole in the house plus kittens get adopted more often than older cats the biggest concerned that i have if the fact that cats use litter box and im just worried that the whole house will smell like feces

Well, I have two cats, and I adopted them both as older cats (2-3 years). I think that would be a great idea for you. Because I am sure, having two puppy-like dogs, and two kittens will be very hard for, like if one if the kittens is about to get its self into trouble, and so is the dog, you cant help both of them at once. Yes, they can be indoor only cats. What you have to do though, is provide them looooads of things to do. Like get them a cat-tree, and put it at a windowsill, so they can see outside. The litter box will only smell really bad if you dont clean it out at least once a day, and with two cats, maybe more. Just see whenever the cat uses the litter box, and you are around, scoop it out. It only takes a minute, and bang! - the smell is gone lol. So, I think you should get one or two older cats, they are less needy, and less clingy, and more independant. And also, you can get a coverd litter box, so it doesnt show, and it helps keep the smell in. If you get an older cat, like 2-3 years old, they will still be quite playful, but just not as hyper as a kitten with razor-sharp teeth. Are your dogs used to cats? The cat you adopt wont like being chased around by a dog in their own home lol. What is needed to make a cat happy: A healthy diet A warm lap (yours, since your the owner lol) Things to do when your out And to be as lazy as they want. Honestly, if you can take care of two dogs, I am sure you can manage a cat or two, I also have two dogs and two cats, and I find the dogs a whole lot harder of a job. The cats temperment doesnt just depend on the breed, it is also down to the individual cat. For example, a ragdoll cat is said to be laid back, and lazy, but I know one that when you pick it up, it squirms like mad to get down, and I know another that will fall asleep in your arms lol. So, go to the animal shelter near you, and speak to the people there, and explaine what you are looking for, and what your lifestyle is like, and they will help you find the perfect match I hope I helped. z. xxx

Cats are great indoor pets. They require less training than most dogs, are usually pretty independent and easy to care for. The main thing is to make sure your home is prepared for your cat(s). I would encourage you to stop feeding the strays, your cat may see them as a threat to his territory and try to bolt out to fight whenever the door opens. Make sure you find a cat who will integrate with your dogs well. Some cats like to be the only pet and don't like other animals, so do your homework. If you go to a reputable rescue agency, usually they will be able to tell you who plays well with others. You also need to be sure to have the proper equipment. You will need at least one scratch pad (to discourage furniture scratching), a litter pan (this will require at least daily policing), food bowls (I suggest elevating the feeding station to avoid fights with the pups) and a hidey hole (preferably placed high up). Your cat will most likely find many hidey holes in your home but if he is provided with one from the start, he may not try to make extra holes. You can find all of these things at any pet store or even at wal-mart. The main thing is to do your research, prepare beforehand, and plan to give your cat time to adjust to his new surroundings and roommates.

You should never let a cat outside in an urban environment. In my opinion, the only time a pet cat should be let outside is if someone lives in the country. Even then, I think that when you take on a cat, you should keep it inside. You're fairly young to have all these animals. Where will they live if you decide to go to away to college? How can you be certain you can get a pet-friendly apartment when you eventually move out? You sound like a good pet owner, but you'll want to think carefully about why you want more animals and how you'll provide for them if your situation changes.

all you need to keep your cat happy is a litter box(which needs cleaned with a scooper everyday so it wont stink up the house), food, water, some cat toys, and a cat bed and they will love you..if you get a kitten keep him confined to one room until it gets a little older and so the dogs dont smush it...let them play with him for a little bit at the time so they dont always want to kill him and so he gets used to them..

Cats are a responsibility, just like any other living animal. They do not require quite so much attention as a dog would though. Keeping your cats indoors would be a good idea, but that means you probably should consider getting them declawed, or risk your furniture getting scratched up. Cats are usually very independent, and just fine on their own for a while. If you get a litter box that has a cover on it, and use good litter, it will reduce the smell of feces in your house. My cat's litter box is hardly noticeable. I would say consider your options, but you sound like a pretty good candidate. I'm glad you're looking to adopt :) Good luck!

I think they're pretty easy. Less work than a dog, for sure. Cats have different personalities - some are very active and others are pretty lazy, just like dogs can be. It's hard to tell with a kitten what they'll mature to be like, but if you choose to adopt an adult, then you'll know what you're getting, if you have a preference on how active the cat is. Some cats will stay hyper for years, others grow out of it after kittenhood, so a 3 y/o is a good choice so you can really get what you want. Most cats entertain and exercise themselves, but they do enjoy play with humans. As long as you control their diet, they shouldn't get fat. Cat litter has deoderant in it, so I don't think smell is an issue if you do your part to keep the box clean. I love the scoopable stuff - you can remove solid and liquid waste easily. With any litter, though, if you allow it to get really dirty, of course it will smell. The cats will not want to use it either if it's too gross. So, scoop it daily. Most cats are good about burying their poop anyway, and there is no smell buried under the litter. I do have a cat who doesn't bury it, so I bury it for her if I smell something. It's perfectly fine for the cat to be an only cat - I think most prefer it that way, actually. Keeping it indoor only is much better for the safety and health of the cat :)

While its always nice to adopt an older cat, I would recommend kittens in your case. But please watch them around your dogs! Ive heard that dogs hunt in packs and they're more likely to hurt a cat if there are 2 dogs together. The reason why I say kittens is because I have two adult cats that do not exactly get along with the new adult dog. But if kittens grew up around a dog they would be fine together. Oh, and make sure you keep your cat litter tray seperatly from the dog. While not all dogs want to eat cat poo, ours does, and obviously clumps of cat litter mixed in is not good so we had to put up a gate.
