How To Find Out Mobile No Owner?

I want to foster a cat, + how to find a lost cat's owner?

  • Tango/Buster, a stray cat I found has really gotten close to my family ( except my dad :p ) He has tags, and im trying really hard to read it, its always jangling around and I can't read it right. Many glimpses have stated hes from Florida, and from a place called Deerfield, and that his name is Buster. He might be an outdoor cat, hes friendly and healthy enough, but its winter, so who in their right mind lets their cat go outside with unlegit tags? How do you suppose I can find his owner? Someone told us of a neighbor's grey and white cat -which he is- is eating squirrels and birds and their from Florida, but my city is big and how do I pinpoint that neighbor? If all else goes wrong and I can't find his owner, I have another question to ask. It pulls our heartstrings to give him to a kill shelter, we can't find any other place that'll take him. So I want to foster him. Can you give me the basics, like, is it our family's sole responsibility to find him a home? And do we need a license?

  • Answer:

I would defiantly go to your local humane society or vet clinic, and they can see if it has a microchip, the humane society would have a good team that could find the cats owners, and check for numbers on the cats ear, could have been numbered, or check around for papers about the cat, talk to people, and try to find the owners, and put out posters about the cat being found near where that neighborhood is that you got told about, if you know where it is, and if you want to foster a cat you don't need a license, and it is a really good thing, go to a humane society near you and get more information from them. Also you could just easily take off the collar and read it, then you could look easier, or just calm the cat down enough by giving it treats to read the collars.

If he has tags, he almost certainly belongs to someone. There will be a phone number (vet's or owner's) on the tag. What do you mean you're "trying really hard to read it"? And what do you mean "unlegit"??? I gather you live in another state...maybe the cat's family just moved to yoru state and didn't get around to getting new tags for the cat. Have someone pat or feed the cat for the FIVE SECONDS it will take to find a number and write it down. If you can't get information from the tag phone numbers, phone your local Humane Society to report the cat? You know his name is Buster, with Deerfield Fla. tags. Ought to be easy for them to find his owner. If the HS doesn't know, then look in the paper, phone local vets, post a Found ad online (Kijiji, Craigslist). "we can't find any other place that'll take him" What does that mean??? You're trying to re-home him already? He ISN'T YOURS to re-home. Let the Humane Society handle it. You can keep in touch with them to see if his owner shows up, and if he doesn't, ask around to neighbors and friends to see if you can find a good home, then send them to the HS to adopt Buster. But I would say the odds are about 99% that right this minute there is a frantic owner worried sick about his cat named Buster. You don't put tags on a cat you intend to dump.
