Can you tell if this scab is older than 4 days old?

Cats ripped off scab off of stitches?

  • Last tuesday my kitten was spayed she had stitches and after a few days a scab had healed over, we were told to bring her back to the vets so they could check it eas healing well. The vet nurse said it was healing really well! But this morning i woke up and she had chewed up one of her toys i lifted her up to tell her that it eas naughty lol but then i looked at her stitches and noticed the scab was not there anymore there is the stitch line though which looks better than before the scab formed also there is a bit of purple thread hanging out of the end which wasnt there before??? Is the scab meamt to fall off or do you think shes chewed it off?? We have put the ecollar back on her. Any help???? Ty

  • Answer:

It's likely that the scab just fell off on its own, I've had many cats spayed, you just have to let them go through the healing process on there own. The purple thread I wouldn't be too worried about as long as its not hanging really far down; Likely where they made the knot for the stitch. All you can do is let your kitty go through the healing process and wait it out, if you feel that something could really be wrong; make an appointment to go get the cat checked up :)

The scab will have just fallen off nothing to pain about. She was spayed 9 days ago so the wound should be fully healed now as the vet usually take the stitches out 10-14 day so she doesn't really need the collar on now.
