Why are people more allergic to cats then dogs?

Why do some people think cats aren't as intelligent as dogs or people for that matter? I have noticed.....

  • Some people on here saying cats are dirty and stupid etc etc, the list goes on, things like cats arent as loving or as smart and loyal as dogs, or you can't train cats... All of this is untrue, cats are very intelligent, clean, loyal and loving, and they should not be compared to dogs because both cats and dogs are intelligent in thier own ways... just because they are different doesnt mean one is better than the other. I equally love and respect the intelligence and uniqueness of both cats and dogs and I hate to hear people choose one and demean the other by comparing the pros and cons of each animals habits and characteristics. It is unfair because they are both completely different and yet equally amazing and intelligent in thier own capacity. Read this and you might think twice before saying much of anything is smarter than a cat when they are compared in a purely scientific manner... http://www.1fleacontrol.co.uk/acatalog/Intelligence-of-cats-part-1.html

Hi Kelly...a lot of the comments come from personal experiences and as well ignorance. It's like someone stating that oranges are more sweet than lemons when in fact they probably never realized there are sweet lemons, but (1) never knew this --ignorance and (2) did know but prefer to believe oranges are always sweet and lemons are supposed to be sour because that has been what they've been told repeatedly. Intelligence is a relative term to the species of the animal as ALL animals have the capacity to learn. Two primary factors will influence accuracy in the interpretation of any test for animal intelligence -- an understanding of the animal's natural history and an understanding of the limits of the test. An animal will naturally show an aptitude for a concept it needs or uses regularly in the wild. As an animal trainer we discover while we are educated that intelligence has very little to do with how trainable an animal is. Yet, as humans, the subject of intelligence continues to fascinate us. So both dogs and cats are trainable and neither are more intelligent than one another it's just as you've recognized they are different in their abilities based on their natural behaviours. I could go on and on with the scientific aspect and the anthropomorphic aspects which are the biggest reason for the dispute.

I love both. I think cats are loving, smart, very clean, unique animals, not to mention so adorable. People that are on this thing are probably mostly dog lovers or don't like animals in general
