Why would a pumpkin be frenetic?

Why would my cats try to eat pumpkin guts?

  • I was cleaning out pumpkins in order to make pie, and my cats mobbed the stringy insides and started macking down on it. They also tried to steal the pumpkin seeds. What is going on? Last I checked: cats were carnivorous.

  • Answer:

Pumpkin is an ingredient in a lot of wet cat foods that I buy. It also contains fiber and nutrients that are good for digestive systems! So I guess it would be similar as to why cats love to eat cat grass, just with more nutrients!

Cats eat pretty much anything. Carnivorous or not.

Good question - my cat likes strange things like this, too, as well as cantalope. The other cat loves avocado. Who knows why they like these thigns, but at least it is healthy. There are a lot of minerals in these things and, perhaps, that is whey they like them. Outside, in the wild, they would have their choice of "added ingredients" for their diets. Inside, they need to take them while they see them, even if it is not their first choice. Pumpkin also contains a lot of fiber and is good for the digestion. It is sometimes used for sick cats for digestion if the have diahrrea, for example.

Pumpkin "guts" are really high in fiber and would be good if your kitties did eat them!

Don't talk to me about pumpkins! We had cooked a butternut squash a few weeks ago and found out our Ocicats loved the stuff. Then I got a small pumpkin for decorating. Well certain unnamed felines decided to knock the pumpkin off the counter and between them and the dog there was a big chunk missing (which I suspect the dog ate most). But there were tiny kitty teeth marks in the pumpkin and the edges had been nicely nibbled on! They did pay for looser stools for a few days after eating it!

my sisters cat loves lettuce. Mine used to like green beans. And actually, cats are omnivorous

I don't roll on Shabbos!
