Why do so many people think that cats dont bond the way dogs do?
-
I think these people are very mis informed. Cats do too bond with their owners, at least mine do. They are always so excited to see me come home, sleep with me follow me.....etc. I had dogs my whole life and when my home burned down and I lost my dog it broke my heart. So....I decided to get a cat, which turned out to be three cats by the way, LOL for a little change and because they are supposed to be more independent than dogs and less work. Plus the fact that I dont think I could ever except another dog again and I thought that I wouldnt get too attached to the cats because they are so independent. You see I was mis informed too. In about a month I fell in love with my cats and eventually adopted a third one (a small kitten) and now I couldnt live without them. They won me over and over again. So...Im just curious as to why people believe that cats do not bond. I believe that all pets no matter what they are bond with their owners.

Answer:
There are no statistics available proving cats do not "bond". The "feline" species is more independent and can function and survive better than the "canine" species. Cats can be left in the home for a weekend with adequate water, food, and a clean litter box, and your house will be pretty much in the same shape as when you left. Dogs cannot be left in a house for much more than eight hours before they are going berserk! Dogs don't bond any more to humans than cats. Some humans can't do without dogs because they want someone to be dependent on them. Love and take care of whatever pet you choose. Snakes need love too!

If the chemistry is right between the owner and the cat, I think the two can bond quite well. I love my cat

When i was sick my dog bought me water. (I just looked at him in distress). Cats are not intelligent and they cannot connect with humans as dogs can. Also cats don’t have a sense of loyalty and owner ship. I can feed your cat and pet it she will come to me. Even if you feed my dog and play with it will not take you as owner. Btw my dog is a dobie

Cats DO bond with you, it just takes a longer period of time. The cats I have now I've adopted from a friend of mine after she died, and even though they knew me, it took a couple of months before the first one totally bonded with me. Now he's either under the table when I'm eating, under the sofa when I'm watching TV, or at the foot of the bed when I'm sleeping. The second one (his brother) I just got last week...

I think it's because you pick a dog and the dog loves you. With cats even though you pick them, they must pick you back. Cats take longer to bond with people then dogs do... its like they have a more sophisticated thinking process... therefore people think my dog always wants attention, when cats have an attitude of I will come to you, maybe... later! haha thats what i think...

But any way. ya If you know why people think that cats are bad luck please tell me

Cats definately bond with their humans. Mine sleep with me and herd me to bed. They demand kitty tax (if I have food they want, they insist on sharing.) Some will even try to protect their human. My cat jumped on a stranger that was threatening me.

Most likely due 2 their Independence and they like 2 be given attention when they want it versus a dog wants it all the time no mater what
