How can i get her to go into a room after she took her stitches out on her own? Help!?
-
I tried everything to restrict my cat from chewing on her stitches (she was spayed). On Saturday, she took the bottom half off, called the vet on that, then today when I looked at her incision, she took the rest of it out. I took her to the vet and told me to restrict her from any activites. she lives with my husband, me and another cat. I did the best that I could to restrict her from chewing on her stitches and now... her activites are restricted to one room and she's emotionally attached to me. How can I place her in a room without any comotion?

Answer:
If your cat takes out the rest of her stitches, keep a close eye on the incision to spot signs of infection and help keep them clean. My cat took hers out the first night she was home from the vet. My vet told me the same thing I'm telling you. She never had any problems and is happy and healthy today. It's just the nature of cats to do this. She's not my first cat that did this.

the Elizabethan collar will help for sure... also spend lots of time with her - put radio on in room with her, ignoring her will make her upset. they can play when they have stiches, so dont think they have to sleep all the time, its mostly jumping you want to avoid... make sure their is a nice bed for her and even lay her cat tower down in the room so she has something familiar but so she wont jump up into it (assuming she has a cat tower)

Didn't the vet suggest or give you an "Elizabethan Collar"? It will keep her from being able to reach the wound site to chew or bite it.

Buy an E-collar (elisabethian collar). Check the pet stores. This will prevent her from biting at her stitches. Also see if your vet will give you a calming sedative you can give her that will make her sleep and lazy until they are healed. If your vet won't, you might be able to find all natural calming pills at the pet store, just ask someone that works there.

Good luck. You are going to have to be strong and walk away when she claws to get out or cries. Remember--it's for her own good. Also, don't just stick her in a room and leave her--spend time with her whenever possible. Give her a piece of clothing that smells like you so she doesn't feel too left out, or a special toy.
