Static in surround sound speakers?

Will 5.1 Surround PC speakers output surround sound if plugged into a DVD player w/ logitech's game adapter?

  • Hey guys, If I have regular 5.1-channel surround sound PC speakers, and a logitech game adapter (that converts 2 red-and-white RCA audio plugs to a 3.5mm audio plug), will the speakers output proper surround sound when plugged into a DVD player? If not, is there anything I can buy to get proper surround sound out of the PC speakers when plugged into a DVD player?

  • Answer:

In order for you to get true surround sound the source needs to be broadcasting in surround sound. -Your DVD player needs to be able to handle Surrounr sound. -Also the Movie You are watching needs to be in Surround Sound (Dolby Digital Surround in the movie's audio settings)

The adapter that you have won't give you surround sound it'll give you multi channel stereo which means stereo sound through the front and rear speakers and mono through the centre. To get proper surround you'll need a decoder. Creative do this one: http://au.creative.com/products/product_CreativeStore.asp?category=4&subcategory=136&product=9468
