Cheapest home cinema system with optical inputs.

Home Cinema System: Do I need HDMI inputs?

  • I want to buy a DVD/Blu-Ray Home Cinema System, but I also want surround sound for my Freesat+ HD box and my HDMI PC connection. Do I need to get a system with 2 x HDMI inputs? Or do I just plug the system into my TV and it will provide surround sound for everything connected to the TV?

  • Answer:

Those home theater in a box are not very reliable system and most of the time you can not add anything to it or upgrade at a later date. With what you want to connect, I would recommend looking at an Onkyo HT-S 3300, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers for under $400 at Fry's Electronic. This is more reliable than those home theater in box. Just add a Panasonic blu ray disc player to it and you have a nice system. HDMI connection would provide the best video and audio connect to the receiver and then to the tv. Hope this will help you out.

No. Your TV cannot de-code surround information. You will want an HDMI input for every HD source you plan to use. Read bbt91945's answer. It is great advice.
