Can a PS3's audio be heard through a Theater system using composite cords while connected to the TV with HDMI?
-
I own a PS3 and a 42" HDTV. Both are connected by an HDMI cable and both have only 1 HDMI slot. I'm looking forward to buy a Full Home Theater System to use for TV and for my PS3's audio. My uncle suggests to have the PS3's HDMI cable be able to connect to the input of the Theater System, and a separate HDMI cable to be connected from the Theater System to the TV. However, I was wondering, is it possible to keep the HDMI connection between my PS3 and HDTV just for the video, and then use the PS3's composite cord to connect to a Theater System which connects to the TV for audio? Tldr(too long, didn't read); Basically, I want to separate the audio and the video of the PS3. Will the audio play from the Home Theater System if I connect the PS3's composite cords to it, and connect the Theater System to the TV, while my PS3 is connected to the TV itself with an HDMI cable for the visual?

Answer:
When you get that full home theater system, make sure it has enough HDMI inputs for at least one more port than you need. Make sure it can extract the audio while the signal is on the way through the HT as opposed to sending it back from the TV. In the mean time, you can get a switcher like this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3803379&CatId=3667 This switches to the source that is sending the signal automatically. And yes, you should be able to use component with stereo out.

What I would do is just get an audio cable (you can use a red-white RCA if you have to, but if you want surround sound use a digital-optical or digital-coaxial cord) from your TV to the home theater receiver when you get it. Then you don't have to mess with the HDMI connections.

Yes, you can but the sound will be stereo ( 2 channel, not surround sound ). You should connect optical cable from PS3 to Home Theater System for surround sound.
