Help with my projector please?

Help to set up a projector please?

  • Hi, i've got a Bt vision box, works fine, just bought a projector and got the picture on the wall no probs, connected a DVD and can toggle between the two but no sound as the projector has no speakers, i want to buy some speakers but have no idea what connects to what so that i can toggle between freeview and DVD. the BT box is connected to the projector with HDMI and the DVD is connected to the projector with scart. not very tech minded so go easy please, thanks

    Sound will come from the source, in this case the BT box and the dvd player. Some projectors will allow you to take a sound feed of them however in this case in would recommend taking it from source. If the BT box and the DVD player has an optical out port use this (separate cables needed ) and get a decent speaker system if you are using a projector i would say to use a single speaker like the YAMAHA YSP - 1000 as these give good sound but take up little space.

You don't say whether you run a TV as well but assuming you do the best solution is to buy an AV receiver/amp which will also control the vision and sound. You can connect the BT box and the DVD seperately into the amp with component cables and then another set of cables goes into the TV or projector depending on which you are using (described as monitor out). Whenever you watch DVD or BT select the input on the amp and you will get sound and vision for the monitor (TV or projector). The only problem is that you would need to unplug the leads from the TV and into the projector each time you switch between the two. This would be a major problem if your projector is ceiling mounted but fine if it is within cable length of the other equipment. I'm sure there may be an easier solution but this is how I do it.
