Hooking up surround sound?

Need help hooking up surround sound to HDTV.?

• I have a 20 in Sylvania HDTV for my bed room and would like to hook up my old surround sound system. The surround sound system is a Curtis HTIB1000 Home Theater System. I had this hooked up to my old HDTV via A/V cords (I know not the best quality) and it worked fine; I tried to hook this up to my new 20 In HDTV and it doesn't work (no sound). This system only supports A/V cords and nothing else so I can't figure out how I can hook this up so I can have the sound from my 2 HDMI ports working with this. There are 2 A/V cord ports in the back for HDMI sound but when I hook it up from my surround sound system it still doesn't work. Is this system not compatible with this TV or am I not doing something right.
