How can I hook up my basic cable to my surround sound?

How to hook up surround sound for tv with fiber optic cable.?

  • I am going straight from the tv's audio out, which is a fiber optic plug to my surround sound reciever which is the red white and yellow plug. I bought a monster fiber optic cable which came with a two ended fiber optic cable and a two ended red white and yellow cable. So how do I get these different pieces to connect so I can hear my tv throught the surround sound.

    TV's Optical (toslink) out is connected to Receiver's Optical (toslink) input. or TV's RCA audio (red and white)out is connected to Receiver's RCA audio (red and white) input plug. If your receiver doesn't have an optical input then you have to buy an optical to RCA converter. http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-Converter-Adapter/sim/B003OND0N4/2 I do not know of any cable that has optical on one end and RCA on the other end. If you have a 5.1 surround receiver, it is impossible not to have and optical input. Even older Pro-logic receivers have optical input. Check again

Yellow is for video, which you wouldn't need. I've never seen the Monster cable you described (i.e. fiber optic cable which came with a two-ended fiber optic cable AND a two-ended red, white, and yellow cable). I don't know, maybe you described it wrong, or maybe there really is a cable out there. Either way, hope this helps and good luck!
