Is there a special cable for audio optical jacks?

Can I hook up an Xbox 360 to the composite jacks in the back of a Cable box?

  • I see that there are little composite jacks (The jacks for the red white and yellow chords used for video game systems) on the back of my cable box. Is there a way to get this to work with my xbox? My cable box is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4200 Cablevision box. My problem is that I have an old type TV, so the TV itself lacks the proper Composite inputs. I can only plug in old systems, like my SNES and N64 using the cable input. I've already tried simply plugging my xbox into those back ports on my cable box and turning em on, but to no avail, all I see is the regular TV. Is there a special channel for the cable box that I don't know about? Any amount of help is appreciated.

  • Answer:

Those ports on the back of your cable box are output only, so of course it would not work. Like the other poster said get an RF Modulator. Something like this http://www.amazon.com/RCA-CRF907-Compact-RF-Modulator/dp/B0014KKV7W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310310618&sr=8-1

Those jacks on the back of your cable box are outputs, not inputs. This means that they are used to send a signal out of your cable box, but cannot be used to accept an incoming signal. Do as the last person said and get an RF modulator. They are about $30 at Wal-Mart or Best Buy.

Go purchase a "RF Modulator". This will allow you to connect your Xbox to your older TV with a cable connection.
