What Home-Theater Projector for a college dorm room? Need advice please.?
-
My budget is about 700$ for the projector itself. I am living in a 6-man dorm room next year, and we have a HUGE white wall to project on. I want to get a projector that we can hook up TV, video games, and laptops to. So a couple of questions/facts. 1- The room has a lot of windows. So the brightness output is pretty important, so over 2000 lumens I think at least. 2- What do I have to do to have it project TV without it being a crappy little TV projector with a built-in tuner? Do I have to run it through the other tv's in the room (2 others on a stand below this) 3- Suggestions on projectors? Here are the 3 I am looking at right now. ANY help is greatly appreciated. 4- I think one of those little switchboxes from radioshack would be the most efficient right for all of the cables? so in order to run only 1 set of cables to the projector? Thank you for any help. Basically, I just would appreciate anyone who has gone through this process to set up a home-theater system to give me a few tips on setting this up And here are the 3 projectors I am looking at right now. 1- http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater-projectors/optoma-home-theater-series/4505-7858_7-32783385.html?tag=mncol;lst 2- http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater-projectors/mitsubishi-hc1600-dlp-projector/4505-7858_7-33133176.html 3- http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater-projectors/sharp-notevision-xr-32x/4505-7858_7-33018559.html?tag=box4505 So far the Sharp is in the lead because it projects 2500 lumens. help!

Answer:
Go for the cheapest one. When your beer gets spilled on it, it will not be as expensive to replace. Besides you are going to want a better one once you graduate and make all that money.

The sharp is really a business projector. That's why it is so much brighter than the others. It's resolution is also 1024x768 which is not full HD resolution. I'd look at the other two and paint the wall with some paint specifically formulated for high reflectivity.

Go for the Optoma HD65 which has received positive reviews at ProjectionCentral.com. Good luck!

Budget of 700.... well bad thing about projectors is the bulb only has a lifespan of 1-3 years and then you have to replace them with a bulb that goes from 150-500$ each and so on... Sharp is a good company and i work at a school where they are getting that kind.. I really like it but the bulbs are expensive.. i think 400$ for a new one... they have cable over here which plugs into a VCR and it plays TV so its all good :D
