How to connect woofer to my hi-fi?

How do you connect an onkyo skw 340 sub woofer to your Av receiver?

  • I just got this Onkyo skw 340 sub woofer at Americas Thrift stores for $20.00 and it works fine but I need to know how to hook it up to my Av receiver what our my options, I have either a stripped end to stripped end cable or RCA to stripped end cable and I've already tried The RCA to stripped end by putting it in to the sub woofer input and connecting the 2 stripped end cables to the positive and negative holes but it didnt work. The sub woofer is just like a speaker it just has a positive and negative import. If it has anything to do with my setup well here it is I have 4 speakers hooked up to my Bose acoustimass 6 module sub woofer and it has a DVI like connector which have 5 stripped end cables on the other end and thats hooked up to my Yamaha Rx V 530 receiver and so what should I do

  • Answer:

I believe your subwoofer is not active or not powered just passive. What you need is an active subwoofer. Anyway if you are desperate enough to use the sub, then connect speaker wires to the left and right "main" speaker connections (so that will be 2 pairs of wires in all). Prepare another set of wire and connect itto your front speakers and after doing it combine or twist it together with the wires coming from the receiver's "main" connection (be sure +to+ and - to - ). Then connect it to your subwoofer. If you want another way, buy a mono amplifier to drive your sub by way of the subwoofer's rca plug from your Yamaha. If I were you, I'll just buy a powered subwoofer.
