What does Rear RCA output mean?

Digital audio out to RCA cable?

  • I bought a speaker bar ( Maxell SSB-1 Portable Soundbar Speaker) for my TV but can't plug It In. I have no RCA outputs. But I do have a Digital Audio output. So do they make a cord/cable that has both ends to It? I looked on the net but couldn't find one but that doesn't mean It's not out there. I'm not sure this would even work but worth a try I guess.

  • Answer:

If it's a Co-ax digital output, it IS an RCA connection. If its an optical digital output, then you need an Optical>>Co-Ax adaptor. They cost about $30 or so. But, IS the input into the speaker bar a digital input? If not, feeding it a digital signal won't work. It's not just a matter of having the right shape of connectors--it has to be a compatible signal.

No. The sound-bar takes left/right analog input. Your TV outputs 5.1 digital via an optical connection. A simple cable cannot convert these. Your best bet is to return the sound bar and get one that accepts optical input. Your other choice - Yamaha makes some RX-V series receivers that has 3 things you need: * Input for optical digital * 6 RCA output jacks for line-level signals to feed an external amp * A DSP mode called "Virtual Cinema" which down-mixes 5.1 sound to drive just 2 speakers. Hook this all up and run the left/right analog outputs to the left/right analog inputs on the sound bar.
