High pitched static interference/white noise in my studio?
-
Ok, so... i had this problem at my old apartment too. My computer monitor seemed to be making my speakers have this high pitched static noise, not very loud... kinda quiet, but annoying as all hell. I ended up having to run an extension from the other side of the room, guessing on a different circuit, which solved the problem. New Studio, same problem.... i boiled it down to the monitor again. This time, i flipped the plug upside down on the extension when i plugged it in so that the ground connection was INCORRECTLY out of the female slot and exposed. For some unknown reason this caused the interference in my speakers to stop, All was good for a few months... Then i made a new computer. Now... the problem shows up whenever the computer is plugged in to the power strip or any other outlet in the room. The computer doesn't even need to be turned on for the static to persist. I turn the computer off, and there is static in the speakers.... i unplug the computer and everything is ok. I also have bought an outlet tester.... everything appears good with the outlets. There is a grounded connection reading on the tester and they seem to be working fine as far as the tester is concerned. Any help would be greatly appreciated. p.s. i also tried running an extension from an outlet that is on a different circuit; same thing! And i don't think its magnetic interference because i believe the speakers are magnetically shielded, and 5 feet away. Thanks for anyone who takes the time to help me resolve this issue.

Answer:
You need to buy an AC noise filter. It plugs into the AC outlet, and you plug your monitor into it. It prevents the monitor from injecting noise onto the AC line, which is creating noise in other components.
