Surround Sound with PS3?

Cannot work PS3 with surround sound.?

  • I currently have my HDTV set up to my DVD receiver, which is connected to my 5.1 surround sound system, and I have my PS3 set up to my TV, with a digital optical cable running between the PS3 and DVD Receiver Hub and I'm having trouble working them together. The DVD/Surround Sound and PS3 are set to HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 respectively. I will usually have the DVD on before I have the PS3 on and set to HDMI 2 and the PS3 picks up the surround sound, but like 7 times out of 10 this will not happen, and it fails to ever pick up the surround sound and is silent. I was wondering if there's anything I can do to make sure it always finds it. Because a lot of the time I have to turn everything off and turn them on (in the same order I do) and it works, but it seems entirely random, which shouldn't be the case. Thanks.

  • Answer:

You need to go into your setup menu and look for an input configuration, like 'game'. Then you toggle through the audio input choices and choose opti 1 or 2. Whatever opti input your PS3 is plugged into. I know your PS3 video output is plugged directly into the TV. But you have to have an input selected that is configured with the optical input that you plugged your game console into. I arbitrarily selected 'game' because it's common among HT receiver models. It just has to be an input that can have an optical input assigned to it. You can read about this in your manual for more clarity.
