How do I hook up 3 HDMI cables to one port?

  • I am looking at getting a projector and building a home theater system. I am looking to connect a Playstation 3, a Xbox 360 and a HD cable box, all using HDMI cables. But most projectors that I have seen only have one, maybe two HDMI slots. How would I go about hooking all of these up if there is only 1 HDMI port? I'm sure there is a way I just don't know how I would do it. Thanks!

    You should buy a receiver ( for surround sound system ) with 4 HDMI inputs then you just need one HDMI output from receiver to projector for video.

You do NOT want a splitter ... you need (at least) a 3x1 HDMI switch. A splitter does exactly that ... "splits" the signal between several outputs or combines several into one. A switch "selects" among different inputs and sends the selected signal to one output. Switches cost anywhere from ~$25 >>> $100+. See the link for one at the lower price end. Make sure whatever you buy is HDCP compliant. One with a remote control is desirable. The best switches are "powered" not passive. Note that if you also want good sound you will need some form of amplifier and speakers. Many modern A/V receivers will provide the audio amplification and incorporate a built in 3 or 4 to 1 HDMI switch as well. A receiver is more expensive than a switch, but if you want the sound it's better idea than a stand alone switch.

you have to get a HDMI splitter you can get them at best buy or raidoshack

You can easily get a hdmi splitter with 2 or even more ports, make sure to buy from a reputed brand and do not pay too much as you can always get these for discounted price. Use google to search for a hdmi splitter or check my resource section.

With an HDMI splitter. You will need to manually adjust a switch that controls which one you want to use, but it's better than unplugging and replugging in the cables. Less wear and tare.
