I'd suggest looking at a few sets at your electronics store... then notice the specs. 1080p is the best available for TV resolution. LED,LCD,Plasma are the 3 types... LED is better for colour depth and efficiency vs. LCD - so get LED between the two. Plasma is still a great option, but there are some strengths and weaknesses vs. LED ... but is still arguably competitive. LED and LCD comes in 60hz,120hz,240hz so in theory the higher the refresh rate, the better... so get 240hz... and if you don't like the look, you can always turn the refresh rate down from the TV options menu. Personally, I'd go for LED 240hz. Many brands are out there... but Sharp is the only one with a four-LED system. All the other companies use RGB = red, green, blue LEDs whereas Sharp uses RGBY = yellow as the fourth one. This 4LED system covers more of the colour gamut - therefore giving better, more vibrant colours. Sharp prices for their TVs are also very competitive. Depending on your budget, the do make a whole range of sizes. 50" is good... 55-65" options are also available. I'd get their largest one if I had the room for it and the $$ lol. Good Luck!

Plasma is still providing the best picture, but you must choose wisely. I feel the Panasonic plasma's are offering the best picture right now. Panasonic's Viera TC-PVT25 series plasma's Depending on the sitting distance will determine the size you should choose. I always like to see the largest screen you can afford as this will give you the best cinema viewing experience, and then when watching standard broadcast your not going to be viewing to small a picture. I would also like to highly recommend ether having the TV professionally ISF calibrated (by a certified ISF technician) or at the very least buy the Video Essentials blu-ray dvd and take the time and calibrated the set yourself. The disc is very informative and will step you through the process. With a little patience you can get close to a professional calibration. The only way to see how good HD can really look is to have the TV properly calibrated. Kevin 35 years hi-end audio video specialist
