Blu ray and HD DVD player?

I need help regarding HDMI/RCA cables for HD tv & blu-ray dvd player?

  • I have a ps3 and when I brought a Full HD television 2 weeks ago I was told by a friend that I should buy a HDMI cable to connect the two, so to get the best picture quality when playing blu-ray dvd's, so I did. The problem I have, or better still the problem my parents have is, they have just brought a full hd tv and a blu-ray dvd player. In the packaging for the dvd player there was those 3 cables (that are red, white and yellow) to connect it to the tv, no other cables came with it. Should they buy a HDMI cable or will the picture still be the best with just the Red/White/Yellow cables? any help would be appreciated, thanks

    they should defo buy a HDMI cable, quite why the blu-ray player only came with a composite video cable is beyond me, esp when blu-ray boasts to be the best in hi-def picture quality, composite video is not great

Cables that came with Blue Ray (red-white-yellow) are not HD capable HDMI for a BlueRay is recommended. You can also get HD from the BlueRay via the component video (red-blue-green) cables. You then can run your stereo audio (white-red) cables to a seperate surround sound from just the tv speakers. This option would be cheaper than buying HDMI cables.

The red, white, and yellow cable is about as basic as it gets and it can not do HD in any way. To get an HD picture from blu ray you have to have HDMI connecting it to the tv. So your parents do need one. You can get them for less than $20 so don't overspend on one.
