Do most people in the UK have DVD players or Blu- Ray players that play any region dvds? (such as Region 1 )?

can people in Britain watch US dvds? why it seems that many or most americans have dvd players that cant play region 2 or UK dvds? when, how this came to be? and why more people dont find ones that are region free? pleae explain what you can thanks for your answers!

About 75% of DVD players sold in the U.K. are Region Free from new. Most people will hack theirs to Region Free if they aren't. Region free DVD players have been available in Britain, almost since the first DVD was released onto the market. Around 15% of U.K. households now have Blu-Ray players, instead of DVD players.

Many players have 'codes' you can enter which will make them region free, mine did back in 2000, both players and recorder I own now are region free.
