What is HDMI cables?

What is a good brand for hdmi cables?

  • I bought some hdmi cables at game stop and I went back to the mall and I seen monster hdmi cables and they cost Double the price. is there much of a difference in the Quality of the cables.

  • Answer:

Absolutely their is a difference in the quality of cables. However, its an additive effect, not just the cables, but how short or long the cables, the material of the cable tips have bearing. Where the speakers are placed in the room and so forth. A sonic junkie can tell the difference, just like a gamer or a movie addict can tell the difference between a led and and a plasma screen or the difference between a Sony LCD and a LG LCD television. Its incremental and worth the money and effort if that is your thing. I have yet to hear of anyone complain about any brand of cables. I have monster and phillips cables. I forget which one is phillips and which is monster. I can tell they work just fine and would not trade them for the world. Why should I? Purchasing a good surge suppressor that conditions the electricity, or an un-interruptible power supply will make a more noticeable difference than switching out cables to 97 per cent of all people. The other 3% are musicians, producers and sound engineers. Best.

No. HDMI is a digital signal so there will be no difference between the inexpensive cables and the expensive ones (see second link for confirmation and further explanation). The only difference there may be is their specifications - make sure the cable is rated for HDMI 1.3 (at least) and you will be fine. If you want good quality cables at an inexpensive price point, no one beats monoprice.com and they are good quality cables (see link).

May be there is no difference in the video quality between expensive and cheap hdmi's? That's something I wouldn't know I haven't tested the theory, but the first advocate sounded pretty firm to his belief. I'm sure, however, there's a difference in the construction quality. I personally favor Knukonceptz cables. I have knukonceptz running my theater system (speaker wires, interconnects, hdmi). This is tried and true vs. Monster cable. The build quality is very solid and their prices are no more expensive than what you would buy from walmart. I bought Monster cables, before replacing them with Knukonceptz, I found Monster cables drastically inferior to Knukonceptz and Monster is outrageously over priced. Check out: Knukonceptz.com I hope you will give them a try. I've never had a problem with them and I value their wires and prices. Wow, $10 for hdmi's? Where? If they are that cheap now they have came way down in the last year. When I bought mine they were all around $30 for 3 feet, but it was like that anywhere you go. I can't imagine a $10 hdmi including shipping being built worth a crap. Probably fall apart after a year or less. I know Knukonceptz is heavy duty, rugged, and works to perfection. I wouldn't try a $10 hdmi, just saying. I'd also be a little skeptical on the possibility of signal interference. I wouldn't spend good money on a tv set then hook it up with $10 crap connectors. Unless Knukonceptz is now $10. They have always kept their prices competitive.

According to CNET (a very good electronic equipment reviewer), you should not spend more than $10 (shipping included, if you get it on line) for a 6-foot HDMI cable. Just make sure the cable is HDMI 1.3 or higher, and you're good to go. The more expensive cables have things like gold plated pins, beefier connector housings, better shielding, etc. But, you're passing a digital signal (audio and video, plus DC voltage) on an HDMI cable. And, unless you're using it in a commercial application where you need a more rugged construction, the cheapest of HDMI cables will work fine and last a long time. I picked up a 6-foot HDMI cable off an eBay seller for about $4 with shipping included to run the output of my Blu Ray to my TV, and it works just fine.
