Sony products have dropped in quality and reliability. Those home theater in a box are not very flexible or are upgradable, when one item fails (normally the disc player) then the whole system have to be replaced. I favor the Onkyo HT-S3300, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speaker and all you need is to add a Panasonic Blu Ray disc player BD-65 and you are at under $600. Onkyo is a very good name brand and the Panasonic is the most reliable player in the market today. If you read yahoo questions, you will always find or reading a problem with Sony product. I still use a Panasonic first generation blu ray disc player model DB-10 over 3 years old and have played over 300 Blu Ray disc without any problem. I have used Onkyo receivers for well over 25 years and had had no break down at all. While my 2 Sony tv (one was the first HDTV in the market that listed for $8,000 and I paid $6,400 only lasted 2 years, along with 2 DVD player model 7000 and 7700 both players priced at over $1,000 new only lasted 2 years) lasted 2 years. I would not recommend any Sony product expect the PS3. Hope this will help you out.

+ Good electronics are expensive..Pair your current sony equiptment with Yamaha 4100 sound bar..It will compliment your tv and disc player..Ive seen them new on ebay for 999. delivered..So check before you purchase ..the sound bar eliminates a rats nest of wiring.Surround sound is simulated and can be very convincing....enjoy..The sony ct 150 sound bar is a less expensive alternative.with hdmi inputs.for cable/tv and blueray player. Both sound bars are wall mountable

I prefer JBL and Harman Kardon for home applications. Onkyo is also a very good make but sometimes can be hard to get support. http://www.getavproducts.com/combined-product-search/results/uc_price%3A500%2C550%20field_manufacturer%3A%22JBL%20HOME%22
