What are some DVD recorders with component input and output?

I have "component RGB" ports behind my dvd player, are they input or output or both?

  • I have a sanyo DVD player. And I have an old TV with only (RCA composite ports-red, yellow ,white). I have a VGA to component (RGB) cable. I have a laptop with a VGA output. I want to watch my laptop screen on my TV. So my plan is, I connect the VGA to component with laptop and DVD player. The DVD player to the TV using composite (red, yellow, blue) cable. Will it work???

  • Answer:

Why do you want to use the DVD? It is not necessary. At Buy.com you can buy a VGA to RCA adapter at a real reasonable price. Please be aware of a couple of things, an RGB cable only separates the video signal where a RCA (red, white and yellow) is left audio right audio and video. Also you may have to toggle the second monitor (your TV) to receive a signal coming out of the VGA on your laptop. Pat attention to your TV, does it have red, white, and yellow jacks or are they red, blue and green? Be sure to buy the correct one. Contact the web site for further help.

No, it won't work. Those jacks on the DVD player are outputs. I'm not sure what a "VGA to component" cable would be, anyway. The VGA connector does not normally have component video in it, so you can't do that conversion with just a cable. Now some computers do have the ability to emit component video instead of VGA from their VGA connector, but you have to enable it in your video driver. Actually converting VGA signals to component requires a little "transcoder" box, not just a cable.

No that will not work, because the RGB is most likely an output since it is streaming video out of your DVD player to your TV! RGB cables also are only for video! You would need two more RCA cables (red & white) for audio! The best thing you could do is just get a vga to composite cable and then connect the composites to the back of your TV input!
