How to connect 5.1 surround sound system to my TV?

How do i connect my 5.1 surround system to my TV? ?

  • The TV is a panasonic viera and it has 2 audio outputs at the back (Left and Right). My amplifier for the 5.1 system has 6 audio outputs (3 Left and 3 Right). I am able to connect 1 output from the 5.1 to the TV and the sound comes out from all speakers and the subwoofer, however i would like to connect all the outputs to the back of my TV as i did with my PC as the sound would be much better and hopefully i can get 5.1 surround sound. Can any body help me with a solution? I was wondering if it is possible to get some sort of adapter to connect the outputs from the 5.1 to a adapter that has 1 output (Left and Right) and connect it to the back of the TV? would that increase the quality of the sound and be able to receive surround sound?? Please do reply. Thank you.

  • Answer:

Use optical or coaxial digital cable to connect from TV to receiver if your TV has one of them.

Please note that 5.1 Audio has nothing to do with the TV. You would get 5.1 surround when your TV is connected to your 5.1 Home Theatre system, ONLY if your cable channels is being broadcast in 5.1 surround mode. Even with DVD, only a movie which rated for 5.1 DTS surround audio will give out 5.1 surround sound. With any normal DVD, you would still not received 5.1, if the movie is not rated at 5.1 surround.
