How do you hookup the DVD player?

Can you hookup componet cables to a hdmi dvd player ?

  • My tv does not have a HDMI plug all I have are componet cables, but I want to get a dvd player with HDMI for a better picture. Is there any way I can do this.

  • Answer:

Yes, just make sure the DVD player has component outputs as well as HDMI. Most good upconverting DVD players will offer this feature. I have this same setup at home and component cables are capable of 1080i resolution. Don't let any tell you this can't be done. Email me if you need more clarification. Hope this helps!

No, sorry you cant. HDMI dvd players upconvert the resolution using strictly HDMI. Unfortanely there isn't any type of adapter or converter. Just use a progressive scan dvd player and use the component video cables. This will give you 480P resolution, which is still much better than using standard av cables.

check the native display resolution. there are some up converting DVD players that offer 1080i on a component video. Conversely the the new formats of HD DVD and Blue Ray will limit the upper resolutions to HDMI solely for the purpose of Digital Rights Management. I have seen some players offer 1080i on HD-DVD and Blue Ray but I have yet to see one offer 1080p over anything but HDMI. It is hard to tell what is available because most are touting HDMI, look in the service menu to see what it can do.
