What type of projector screen should I get?
-
I'm new to the projector world, and I could use some help choosing a projector screen: Projector: Epson HC8350 Powerlite Home Cinema 1080p projector Brightness: 2000 lumens Contrast: 50,000:1 Desired screen size: 105" diag at 16:9 (51.5"H x 91.5"W) - preferably fixed wall-mounted (not one that pulls up or down) The screen will be next to a floor-ceiling window, which I consider to be "medium" ambient light during the day with blinds closed. I've used the projector on the bare wall, which is somewhat glossy, and the image is more than bright enough at that size even during the day but suffers from hotspotting and the texture of the wall. What I need help figuring out is what color (grey, white), what finish (matte, glass-bead), what gain (to defeat light pollution but not have a hotspot), and what brand is best for me (and what brands to avoid). I'd like to spend around $500 if possible, and a reconditioned screen is ok as long as the screen itself is undamaged. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Charlie, the link below might help: http://www.bigscreenforums.com/forum_topic.cfm?which=16108 My unsolicited experience: After determining the screen size by measuring the throw and seating distance, I started my research on the type of screen that would be best for my optoma Home theater DLP hd20 1080p projector. I'm living on a foreign country and my choices for a screen is limited I experimented on painting the wall and framing it with black borders. I got the idea from this link: http://www.projectorcentral.com/paint_perfect_screen_%24100.htm Actually it is my 3rd projector and I'm happy with my new screen. Good luck!

The only two manufactures of projector screens I recommend are Stewart Film Screens and Dalite. Nether are very cheap but you can sometimes find used discontinued models that might fit your price range. The older Stewart Film screens Studioteck 100 series makes a very good screen, very uniform brightness over the whole viewing area. A little under-saturated colors (very honest colors though) but can be adjusted to look great. Kevin 40 years high end audio video specialist
