How to conect PS3. Home Theater 5.1, Full HD TV ?

HI i`ve managed to conect my TV with aux directly to my active sub woofer on my 5.1 surround speaker system (im getting all speakers to play at the same time with no surround sound while watching TV but once i try to play a movie from my TV USB the home theater doesn't work) Also i will be getting a PS3 in 2 weeks so im interested is it possible to do the following? - Connect my PS3 to my TV with HDMI and connect my 5.1 Home theater with aux to my TV? If i do this will all my PS3 games be able to use all 5 speakers from my home theater (i know it isn't possible to get surround sound this way but only stereo with all the 5 speakers)? If it isn't possible what is the cheapest way to get surround sound on my PS3 without a receiver?
Answer:

The PS3 should be connected to the amplifier by HDMI input and from the receiver out by HDMi to digital TV to get full 5 channel output. The receiver is the switcher & gateway and also directs sound to all the channels. If PS3 is hooked up to TV, sound is from the TV.
