How do I Build a Great Home theater system?

Best Home Theater System?

  • I am looking for a good home theater system, I have looked at Bose, but I get a lot of feedback from people saying that Bose is not worth the price and could build a better system for less. What is everyones thoughts on this.

  • Answer:

The best thing would be to go to a place that sells them and listen to several systems. The salespeople are always happy to let you listen. I've read theories about how bose doesn't allow their speakers to be next to others' in a showroom for whatever reason, but the stores i've been in have them sitting just a few steps away from the other systems; BOOM, so much for those theories. The bottom line is it comes down to what you enjoy hearing. Audio is always going to be a matter of personal taste. I'm betting everybody that answers this has a different sound system. That's because we all have our own tastes in what we enjoy. Some so-called experts don't seem to think anybody has the right to enjoy hearing bose speakers. What's up with that? This is still a free country, right? And believe me, none of us are going to reimburse you if you use our taste and end up not liking what you spend your money on. Another thing is ppl have different tastes in looks. A lot of ppl think that bose looks good and matches what's in the rest of their room. Other people like the boxy looking speakers. Other people like spherical and so on. I think ppl have the right to enjoy looking at what they spend their money on. If you think something is freakin ugly, then don't purchase it, right?

I am an installer and I agree Bose has a nice sound but it limits your hook ups to other equipment an is a bit over priced for what you get build your own system you will like the results better. For an Amp Try a Yamaha RX-V663 (under $500), for speakers go with Infinity TSS-500 theater in a box<about $500> and use a PS3 as your Blue Ray< $399>. for the rest have fun hook up what you have. The advantage is each piece can be upgraded as your needs change Hope this helps have fun

I'm another person who thinks ALL Bose products are ripoffs. They aren't necessarily bad, just way too overpriced. For $1,500-$2,000 you can get a much better sound system than what they provide. I always recommend you build your system piece by piece. This means buying a receiver and speakers separately. But if you want the ease of a home theater in a box I say you should go with Onkyo's receiver-based systems rather than any DVD player-based system. The HT-S9100THX would be ideal, but the 6100 is good too. http://www.us.onkyo.com/prod_class.cfm?class=Systems Whatever you get, make sure it can do HDMI switching (not pass through). Otherwise you're stuck with component video and optical cables rather than just HDMI.

your right there buddy bose stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment.. dont buy Bose the OVER OVER PRICED... if you going to build a system you should do it right and not worry about upgrading it down line... i would say go with the martin logan preface speakers denon 2309 pioneer mx10 amp vingettes a c/l/r and the abyss sub and as far as blu ray goes go with the pioneer or even the panasonic...this is goin to run you a pretty penny but its goin to be def.worth it.. if you want to go cheapo just to have something go with the denon 1909 ... definitive technology pro cinema 600 and pioneer elite blu ray and the universal areo 350
