How do you pick a good home theater system?

Need advice buying a home theater system, please help!!!?

  • Hi Guys I need some advice in regards buying a home theater system. My two options are; RRP $599 Yamaha YHT-185 5.1 2x Optical 600w Total: www.yamahamusic.com.au/p...tems/YHT-18… RRP $699 Kenwood SAT5120B 5.1 2x Optical 700w Total: www.kenwoodaudio.com/Aus...ils.asp?Cat… Entertainment&SubCat=Home Theatre Systems&Model=SAT5120B I have listened to both, and can’t seem to pick a difference between the two. The only difference is the Kenwood system is $30 more expensive (Managed to get a good deal out for both). I also like the looks of the Kenwood speakers, but that just the looks…. I have read a lot of good feedback about the Yamaha, but none about the Kenwood system. Any comments would be appreciated. I am planning to buy something over the weekend. Thanks

Howdy. If your spending that much for 5.1 you need to get a receiver with 7.1. This way you wont have to upgrade for the new format. If these are receiver and speakers you need to reconsider. You can get a good receiver, yamaha , pioneer, onkyo , Denon, for good prices. Parts express has 5.1 Dayton speakers with sub for about $200.00. You can find anyone of these receivers for $400 - $600. You will have better power also. Check all your options first. Dont let the salesman push you into a box system. They just want to get rid of them. Do some homework and it will pay off. Good luck.

Yamaha is a good home theater receiver maker, but you might like to spend more if you are serious about music.

My suggestion would be to go for the 7.1 systems, but if you ar really set on one of those systems, I would go for the Yamaha, they are putting out better equipment than Kenwood.

How many speakers are you planning to get and how big is the room and what are you going to use it for. For that check Cnet

Yamaha has the superior product quality of the two systems. Kenwoods aren't what they used to be - they're not terrible, but they're not as good quality as they used to be. Yamaha would be my choice. Good luck!
