Surround sound problems?

Problems with Panasonic SA-HT700 Surround sound speakers?

• HI I have a Panasonic Surround Sound System, it's the SA-HT700 model. The Surround speakers never have worked, only the front two. is there a difference between the speaker types? what I mean by that is, when my friend gave me this system, he had the speaker wires disconnected from the speakers, so I just put them back on, but there's no real markings on the "front" and "surround" speakers, so I didn't think it would matter which wires went to which speakers, but maybe there is a difference. I guess it could be a set up problem, maybe some settings are off. Any ideas how to get the surround sound working?

  Are you sure it is SA-HT700? I could not find anything with that model. I did find a model number SC-HT700 and my answer is based on that. According to the manual I downloaded from the Panasonic web site, there is no difference between the front left and right speakers and the surround left and right speakers. As for why they don't work, surround sound speakers work with surround sound material. If you are using stereo material they will only play through the front two speakers. However if you suspect something wrong with any of the speakers you can always substitute speakers - take one that you know that is working and hook one up that you are unsure of. If that suspect speaker works then you know you don't have a speaker problem.
