How does surround sound work?

How can I have my surround sound speakers work for my TV?

  • I bought these Creative brand surround sound speakers looking to hook them up to my TV, but they only wanted to work for my computer. I was pointed into the direction of getting the Sound Blaster 5.1 to hook up to my TV with the optimal audio cord. So far, it only works for the PC and nothing else. My goal is to have the surround sound work for everything: PC, all HDMI ports, etc. I have my PC hooked up with a normal RGA cable and 1/8th inch sound cord. I have both my HD DVR cable box and my XBox 360 hooked to my HDMI ports.

  • Answer:

Your tv only has an optical audio output (digital signal in multi channel), which has to be connected to a receiver or home theater in a box with a Dolby Digital decoder. Computer speaker can not be connected to a tv. Hope this will help you out.

Not going to work. You can't get anything better than Pro Logic sound from two channels. Nothing in your setup is there to extract surround sound channels & feed them to your speakers.
