How do I connect my gaming systems to my surround sound system?
-
I'm trying to connect my gaming systems to my surround sound home theater system. However, I'm having some major issues getting my gaming systems to work on the same system. Here's what I'm working with: RCA DVD Home Theater system w/ surround sound. One set of RGB HD AV cables in the back used for DVD picture, Coaxial cable input. Surround sound on DVDs work. Verizon FIOS Motorola set-top-box, connected to HTS via coaxial cable, connected to TV with HDMI cable. Surround sound on TV works. X-Box 360, connected to TV via RGB HD cables. Nintendo Wii, connected to TV via RGB HD cables. Playstation 3 (also used as Blu Ray player), shares HDMI cable with STB (I'll likely have to buy cables for this one). I'm pretty bad with setting up things like this, and this whole arrangement has my head spinning. What do I need to do, or buy, to get these consoles working with the surround sound.

Answer:
I'm no expert, but heres what I beleive you should do. Google the item you want to connect one by one adding 'audio output' to the name. For example, to figure out the Xbox 360 audio output wire, google 'Xbox 360 audio output'. After you figure out what wire you need for the audio output for each device, figure out what connections your surround sound can handle. If you are not sure by just looking at the plugs on your surround sound system, figure out the model number of your surround sound and google that as well. After you find your exact sysem online, check out the specifications and make sure you have enough audio inputs on your surround sound to support all the devices you wrote down. If all goes well, buy the specific audio output wires for each device and plug them into the surround sound system.

All you really want to do is make all of the connections from your gaming devices to the TV. You should have audio outputs on the back of the TV, so connect them to the audio input for the surround sound and whatever is playing on the TV will come through the entertainment system.

Plug the audio for the consoles into the channels the audio channels for those same video channels. Then just run the RCA from the TV Output channel into the AUX Input of the Player. Any sound coming out of the TV should also play through the surround sound, just make sure its on the right input. Hope it helps! Good Luck!!
