Why do I get no sound on hd channels on home theater?

If I connect my home theater and a HD receiver to a TV do I get the sound of the receiver on the home theater?

  • I am about to purchase a whole TV-Sound system. I was wondering if I got a Home Theater system connected to a HD-TV using HDMI, and I also got a HD Satellite Receiver also connected to the TV through HDMI, do I get the sounds of the receiver on the speakers of the Home Theater system? If not, what is the best was to do so, knowing that there's only 1 HDMI Output port in the home theater system, and 4 HDMI Input ports in the TV. And also knowing that the "Component-Video" port will be taken by xBox. Please help?

  • Answer:

This is what you should do. First, make sure the receiver you are getting offers video up-conversion. This feature allows you to connect RCA or component video sources to the receiver and have them up converted to exit the receiver as HDMI. This is an important feature as it simplifies the wiring of the system and minimizes the buttons you need to push. Connect your system as follows: 1) Satellite to receiver using HDMI 2) Xbox to receiver using Component Video 3) Any other source components to receiver using appropriate cables 4) Connect the receivers HDMI output to your TVs HDMI input When connected this way (and using an up-converting receiver) all you will need to do is switch sources on the receiver and that change will immediately be shown on your TV. Most nicer receivers offer up-conversion technology. I a partial to Yamaha.
