How to convert coaxial cable to s-video /RCA ?
-
I need to convert the coaxial cable that runs out of my TV 2 on my dishnetwork box to a s-video signal for the video and RCA red/white to run for surround sound. The TV 2 cable has to be tuned to channel 60, and then the remote changes the channel at the box. I have to run coaxial from the cable box because it has to trevel a long distance but i need to convert the signal when it reaches the TV / projector. I have tried radio shack and they had no idea. Please help!!!

This just doesn't sound right. If you try to push the wrong type of signal from an output to another type of input, you might end up frying both devices. Possibly; just get a VCR that you can plug in the coaxial and got the signal going out on the RCA output. Not sure which models would do this, but would probably be simpler.

You would need a converter box to do that. THe signal passed over coaxial is incompatible with S-Video and RCA audio so a a simple cable converter will not work. You need to have a RF modulator (TV Tuner). Better bet would be to place the DishNetworks box near the display and just run it's coaxial feed cable longer and use IR Blasters if remote control is hindered. The other option would be to get different cables. You can get extra long S-Video, componet or comppostie and RCA audio cables. They just need to be a bit thicker. You are trying to do something that is not possible s-video is for video only not sound you use s-video for your video input then the RCA red and white for your audio.the cable goes to the back of the box. Then you connect s-video output from the box if available and the RCA cables and then run those to your av input on the TV. Hope this helps there is no way to convert s-video cables radio shack told you they did not know because they probably did not want you to look silly.

Maybe you have a different model receiver than me, but my Dish receiver has a set of RCA outputs for both TV1 and TV2. TV1 also has a s-video output. You should just be able to get a nice long set of composite AV cables and connect them directly to TV2's output. However, the red and white audio cables won't give you surround sound - they only carry a stereo audio signal. RCA cables can run up to 50' without noticable degradation in signal. After that, you may need a signal booster.
