Hook tv up to stereo speakers?

I have a cable that I can hook up to my hdtv output, but when I hook it up to my stereo aux it comes in soft, you can't hear voices, and it crackles, but the music comes in awsome. Please help me with this. What do I have to do to make it come in better and louder.

If you don't get this figured out, you should get the cyber Acoustics 5.1 speaker system. It runs on a 3.5 mm jack and has great sound. And it will only cost you $57 on eBay
