Is hd better than blue ray?

Whats is better Blue Ray DVDs or HD DVDs.?

  • Whats is better Blue Ray DVDs or HD DVDs.? Well ok this has several parts so make sure you mark your answer with a label like I did. 1. which DVD carries the best picture quality. (From the Blue Ray or HD) 2. Can either be played over a standard DVD player. 3. What do you recommend a Blue Ray Player or HD. Leave a link to site that has good players. 4. What is the difference between the two. If you don't know at least 3 of the 4 questions DONT answer

  • Answer:

    1. There is really little if any difference in picture quality. If there is a movie that is on both formats, the print is usually identical. 2. Nope. Some companies have claimed they will start putting dvd on one side and the hd content on the other side but so far none have shown up in the public. 3. I myself bought a PS3 because the cost is $500 for a video game player, media server, and blu-ray player. It's a nice setup. I bought mine from amazon to save tax and shipping costs. 4. The only difference will be who gets the most public support first. So far, blu-ray has the advantage where movie studios with all but universal buying on. HD-DVD has a while to go to get everyone on board. That could all change if everyone starts buying an HD-DVD player all of a sudden though.

Other answers

The above answer is pretty good, altough I'd clarify a few points 1) Neither, both offer the same picture quality 2) No, but there are a bunch of HD-DVD/DVD combo discs out there. They have the HD-DVD version on one side and the DVD version on the other side. Universal and Warner Brothers make them, mainly for their new releases (examples include: Children of Men, Smoking Aces, 300, Breach, Hot Fuzz, etc...) 3) PS3 for Blu Ray, $500 for just about anywhere. The Toshiba HD-A2 for an HD-DVD player. Buy from Amazon for that. Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-HD-A2-HD-DVD-Player/dp/B000IJV4BC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-3268259-9987856?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1185819178&sr=8-1 Price varies hour to hour, right now it's at $239.99 4) Not much difference really. Two things I'd point out. First, Blu Ray can currently hold 50 GBs. HD-DVDs only hold 30 GBs. Both are working on bigger discs. But more disc space means more content can be put on a Blu Ray disc. Second, certain studios are Blu Ray only (Disney, Fox, Sony) and one is HD-DVD only (Universal). So if you have a favorite movie, it might only be available on one format.
