Xbox360 from HD-AV to HDMI?

Component vs HDMI XBOX360?

  • So I got a new 42LG5500 TV and was using an HDMI cable, not a really expensive one, just a $20 belkin one, and it seems that when I am playing a DVD in the 360, the movie will kind of stutter every 5-10 seconds, which can become really irritating. It doesn't do a full stutter, because the audio seems to play continuous. It feels like the video is moving too fast and stutters to re sync itself every 10 seconds or so I guess is the best way I could put it. So I unplugged the HDMI cable and thought it maybe I would try the component cable that came with the XBOX360 and sure enough it plays the DVD movie flawlessly, no stutters at all. Now, with a different cable, still same price range, from my HD Cable box, some of the HD channels seem to do the same thing. They seem to stutter. Sometimes every 2-3 seconds which is unbearable. I almost feel like if the 120mhz could get turned down to 60mhz it would seem like a better quality. From what I read it seems like people preach that HDMI cable quality doesn't make a difference, well apparently component and HDMI does, and my question is why is component seemingly better?

  • Answer:

it's just a matter of format compatibility. in theory hdmi is better because it's vid and aud in one cable and its digital and they've improved on HDMI ever since it came out. Some things just still don't jive with it, and there hasn't been much regulation on this format yet. I knew of some toshiba 55 inch TV's that didn't like HDMI at all. try a different input on the TV, find someone who had a good return policy, buy a 60 dollar hdmi and try it. you have good components, and it's possible to buy cheap cables and get cheap quality. otherwise, contact LG, contact a possible TV repair man or installer to see if they have an answer. good luck
