What is the best way to connect audio for my home theater system?

  • I have an Insignia hdtv with 2 hdmi inputs, a time warner hd cable box with hdmi, a sony bravia home theater with hdmi and a Wii. I have the box and home theater connected with hdmi cables and the wii with composite cables. I currently have my digital audio cable running from my tv to the home theater. Is it better to run the cable from the cable box to the home theater. This will cause me to lose audio on the Wii, right. I want to maximize performance on my system. Any sugestion for improvement is appreciated

    Run the HDMI cable from the cable box to the TV. Connect the composite cables from the Wii to the TV. Then run either an optical cable or a digital audio coaxial cable from the TV to the home theater receiver. This will give you the added benefit of hearing anything on your TV on the surround sound as well. You don't need to connect every device directly to the surround sound.

The best way to do it is to just run the audio cable from the t.v. out on the back of the t.v. to the aux in on the surround sound sys. That way anything that is going into your t.v. the sound will go into your surround sound, just make sure you change your surround sound to Aux 1 or 2, whichever port the sound cables are in.
