What speakers are compatible with the red and white T.V. cables?

Connecting my Creative 5.1 Speakers to HD TV or Sky+ box (3x 3.5mm cables as output)?

  • I have a Creative 5.1 speaker set (I can't find the name but it isnt the Inspire A500 on Amazon) it has three 3.5 mm audio cables (headphone size cables) as output. I'm trying to connect them to my TV or Sky+ box, when I used them on my laptop I used an external harddrive. My TV - Samsung HD, has no spare scart sockets, the Sky+ box does however. I just need to know what adapter I need to buy and where to put it!Can I get a scart adapter and plug that into the Sky+ box and do it that way?Any help would be greatly appreciated because I can't find an answers online which answers this as fully as I need.Thanks in advance

    SCART has only basic stereo audio (plus video). The only way you could connect that speaker set to a surround system or TV for other than stereo is if the source device had 'discrete 5.1' output - individual phono sockets for each speaker channel. You could then get three adapter cables with two phono plugs to a 3.5mm socket and connect as appropriate. Failing that, you need an external surround sound amp or decoder. Edit: My Samsung has a single 3.5mm headphone socket hidden away on the back. If yours has that, you could get a stereo output on the speakers.

What you say cannot be true - or illogical if it is. The fact you have three outputs I would suggest means you are confusing a minijack (headphone size) with BNC, which look similar but are marginally smaller. Are they coloured Red, White or Black and Yellow? If so, it means Right audio, Left audio and Video respectively. Double check on these basics first, as buying splitters is easy to do with online stores like cables2u once you're sure. J
