How do I connect my Sky+ box to surround sound?

Why wont my surround sound work when watching sky hd box?

• I have a blue ray player with 5.1 surround sound witch is connected to my tv via a hdmi cable, this all works fine. My sky hd box is connected to my tv also with hdmi lead. ive just connected my sky box to blue ray player with an optical lead and have hit a problem. When on hdmi1 watching sky nothing comes out of surround sound. If i select hdmi2 i get the sky audio through the surround speakers but no picture. There isnt an hdmi in on blue ray player. not sure what i need to do next!!! hope someone has better idea than me!!!!!

  Hi Luke.......The correct procedure for connection is as follows for (receivers) you have a small home theater/blu ray in a box 5.1 type...yes?...Well this all depends on what type and how many outputs you have at the rear of your 5.1 system ok.....So,you got the first bit right...You connect a hdmi cable to your hdmi blu ray 5.1 system....Then providing you have other outputs you must connect the sky box via the blu ray 5.1 system...Not to the tv ok, so your sky tv antenna cable itself of course goes to the antenna cable input at the rear of the sky box...then you run a audio cable 1 type of the following only eg:optical digital,hdmi or rca cable from your sky box to the aux inputs etc on the rear of your blu ray 5.1 system.....by doing it that way...you can then locate the component source (sky box) on your blu ray 5.1's remote.....Now i do realise your sky box is hd....but if you have no other hdmi inputs at the rear of the 5.1 system then you will have no alternative but to use another type of cable connection....if i only knew what connections you actually had ....then it would make it a tad easier to give you a spot on answer....anyhow,see how you go with the suggestions given...i do have a last resort option for you by using a "hdmi splitter box"...get back to me if you have any further problems with connecting...you can e mail me if you wish or follow up on here ok...cheers!
