Does it matter what type of HDMI cables you buy?
-
What is the most affordable HDMI cables you can buy? Do you have to buy the ones that are high in price?Or can you buy the ones that are low in price? Does it matter or is there a difference that you can see?I think it's a scam and a high markup of these cables.

Answer:
Yes...the higher priced the better. It is somewhat a marketing tool but the higher grade connectors and thicker cable usually works better. You have less signal loss and the connectors don't bend or break as easy as the cheap cables. I only use Monster cables on my THX theater setup. I didn't always and had to replace cables time after time because of signal loss or broken plugs.

You should never pay more than $10 for a standard six-foot HDMI cable. There's no meaningful difference between the $10 cable and the $50 cable. Unless you see something obvious, such as dropouts or a flashing screen, the digital information transmitted by both cables is exactly the same--no cable can make the picture any better or any worse. you always buy a cheap $10 cable that can handle more data.

I have to disagree with the above answer. I purchased this HDMI cable on Amazon for $1.41 (came out to about $5 including shipping, although it looks like they raised the price on it) . It's worked great for me and it even has 800 5-star reviews. You don't have to splurge

For cable lengths of less than 15' any cable will do. There are differences in construction quality, but no difference in signal quality. I have found the cables from this source to be of good quality http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240

The main difference between a high priced cable and a cheap one is insulation. Look at the thickness of the wire. The higher priced cable will be thicker, providing more insulation from spurious radiation from other wires, speakers etc. And being thicker it will be more impervious to breaking. That being said, you don't need to splurge on the best cable out there. I've got both and the thinner cheaper cable ($20) performs just as well as my $65 cable.

Hotly debated topic and I sense a troll. But the best idea is to evaluate each cable on your own. And decide on your own if the improvement is worth the money. It will depend on your equipment source and setup. Start with the 10% of system cost rule for interconnects and you will not get diminishing returns.
